Youth Justice Bill 2024
The Youth Justice Bill 2024 has passed its second reading in the Legislative Assembly. The significance of this passing through parliament is the increase in the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 12 years of age. In addition, the bill aims to create alternative pathways to keep young people out of the formal criminal justice system through early diversion strategies and in the hope of promoting more rehabilative outcomes.
